It’s no secret that the month of February is associated with L-O-V-E. Below are five things I love about our school district: Our students – Our students represent a broad, diverse community where each brings a unique set of characteristics and traits to the classroom that add value to the overall educational experience. Seeing their eagerness to learn and experience all this world has in store, motivates us all to do our very best on their behalf each and every day. Community Support – I love that our parents, community and business stakeholders take pride in our schools and ownership in each of their successes and challenges. This support is at the heart of what sets DeSoto apart. We are blessed to have such a tight knit, small system feel, with world class opportunities. Our Staff – No matter the program, initiative, curriculum or plan that comes and goes, the people remain. I believe this is the most redeeming quality and greatest contributing factor to our success here in DeSoto Parish. We are blessed to have a community of educators and support staff committed to going above and beyond for our students each day. Each time I participate in cluster or leadership team meetings, or learning walks in our schools, I am convinced that we have the best staff anywhere. Their laser focus and commitment to growing our students gives me great confidence in where our system is headed. Our District Leaders – The commitment and support of our school board, district and school administrators is first class. Their desire and expectation to see our students succeed in all things serves as the catalyst to move our district in ways we have never seen before. Each of these team members work tirelessly to support one goal, ensure student learning for each of our children. Embracing all the roles I play – I love every role I play and every hat I wear. Thank you for allowing me to strive to be the best learner, husband, educator, father, superintendent and friend that I can be. As we enjoy our Winter Break February 17-24, I pray for sunny skies and warmer temps. We have just over 50 days of school remaining when we return. I look forward to finishing strong and continuing the work of caring for our students, ensuring their learning, and celebrating their graduation as citizens prepared to transform their dreams into realities. For Students’ Sake, Clay DeSoto School System Achieves Continued Growth in Student Performance This week the Louisiana Department of Education publicly released the results of the 2018-2019 School and District Performance Scores. Schools in Desoto Parish continue to show growth in student performance. In fact, the latest release of accountability results show that Desoto Parish leads Northwest Louisiana with District Performance Scores and is an A” district in K-8 and High School Student Achievement Progress for a second consecutive year. The district grew their DPS to a score of 88.3, which is 1.4 overall points above the 2017-2018 school year. This overall growth is above the state average. We are excited to celebrate the growth of our students and the continued success of our school system,” remarked Superintendent Clay Corley. This is the result of the hard work of our teachers, administrators and support staff. We are fortunate to have a shared commitment from our school board and community. The resources they provide and expectations for our performance are the catalyst that helps bring out the best in each of us every day.” DeSoto students showed overall performance growth in several areas including: grades 3-12 assessments, grades 9-12 student progress and dropout credit accumulation. The largest area of growth was noted in the scores of ACT and Workkeys assessments. Mansfield Elementary had the largest school performance growth in the district of 13.5 points. The school’s performance score grew from 59.3 to 72.8, and is now given a letter grade of C”.We are extremely proud of our Wolverines!
